My Front Door

This is a photo of my front door. I like to decorate for the seasons; Halloween and the fall harvest being no exception. I love beautiful warm days and crisp nights. Last night the moon was lovely.

You’ll notice there is an American flag in one of the flowerpots. I am proud to be an American and know I am fortunate.

I am not proud to be an American in the sense of “love it or leave it”.  I know there  are things that are broken, and I will do what I can to fix them.

But, I think of my Dad who strove to fight for the ideals of America always in World War II. He was an honest simple man; who always tried to do the right thing. I hope I can, too.

I have seen what poverty and injustice can do.

Not only have seen it in Africa, where I worked with kids who had no running water, but had beautiful smiles. I have seen it here where I taught in an impoverished district for 28 years. Sometimes the kids had smiles, sometimes not.  Sometimes they had to put one foot in front of the other. Sometimes I could help them, sometimes not.

If you walk through my front door, you’re welcome.  You’re welcome as you treat others with kindness and respect.  And, I will do the same for you.

You’re welcome to come.
